“I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower
Humankind, practices war in one form or another. In the chaos of battle, the most educated and refined person becomes feral and instinctual.
Killing to protect your family, home, or loved ones is one thing. Killing to appease the desires of the political interests of a nation is another. Both types of murder claim to protect the nation's public. Every atrocity is somehow justified by the sanitized media.
I imagine a war in which armies march to the battlefields and entrench with pencil and paper facing the enemy until both sides develop a peace plan before returning home. Stupid?! No more than how war is waged today.
The missing element is "Trust." People wear bulletproof jackets walking on their own neighborhoods, and even governments fear the public they claim to be protecting while killing foreigners.
War continues. If not against others, always within ourselves.
